SITA – The Warrior Monument

JANAKPUR and the Monument: Sita was a daughter of Janakpur. Events of the epic Ramayan commenced after an innocuous event – the cleaning of the royal palace. Placed in a revered corner was Pinak – the bow of Shiva. Several people were needed to move it. Seven year old Sita lifted the mighty Pinaak in one hand with ease – sending Janak into amazement and worry. A match for her had to display at least as much strength. Because lifting the Pinaak with ease was not only about physical strength. Being the weapon of Shiva himself, the person who was able to handle it with ease had to be of rare and divine qualities. The lifting of the Pinaak by a 7 year old Sita ignited a chain of events whose ramifications were felt by all mankind for ages. Such was the power and potential of the young girl. Yet, Mithila or anyone else has not celebrated this aspect of the young girl – who is the daughter and the sister of the house. Hence the need for SITA – The Warrior Monument.
